Hualien Honey Flavor Black Tea

Smaller green leafhoppers’ feeding on leaves is essential to the flavors of Oriental Beauty and Honey Flavor Back Tea. Hualien Reisui District started to greatly increase oolong tea planation areas in 1999. The total area reached 400 hectares at its peak and then shrank to 60 hectares for the declining export and price-competitive teas from China and Vietnam. Farmers gradually change to Honey Flavor Black Tea production without agricultural chemicals and got great success. While tea cultivation areas are getting bigger and bigger, more and more young people are involving in this industry.

The focus of traditional black tea is taste rather than aroma. Taitung Branch of Tea Research and Extension Station produced “Honey Flavor Black Tea” with leaves bitten and suck by smaller green leafhoppers. This tea has a better taste and more delicate aroma. It is ideal for both hot and cold brew. Cold honey flavor black tea is especially good for its mild honey flavor and sweetness.

The liquid color of Honey Flavor Black Tea shall be clean and bright. In the tea sensory evaluation, flavor accounts for 35% and is ranked by honey flavor. Taste accounts for 40% and shall be silky sweetness with a hint of honey. Amber liquid color, fruity aroma and smooth taste are all criteria for high-quality Honey Flavor Black Tea.
